![]() ![]() Well, unfortunately, I forgot to bring a sword. You know, in certain older civilized cultures when men failed as entirely as you have, they would throw themselves on their swords. That they're buried beneath layers of psychosis. ![]() Whatever secrets she might have accidentally gleaned, it's probable she doesn't even know she knows them. And judging by her deteriorating mental state, I'd say we're both better off. If there was some classified information that she. The minds behind every military, diplomatic, and covert operation in the galaxy, and you put them in a room with a psychic. Key members of Parliament have personally observed this subject. With the mega-corporate mysteries of Blue Sun yet to be explored, it's a safe bet we haven't seen the last of the good ship Serenity. As many critics agreed, Serenity offered all the fun and breezy excitement that was missing from George Lucas's latter-day Star Wars epics, and Whedon leaves an opening for a continuing franchise that never feels cheap or commercially opportunistic. Serenity's cast is led with well-balanced depth and humor by Nathan Fillion as Captain Mal Reynolds, whose maverick spirit is matched by his devotion to crewmates Wash (Alan Tudyk), Zoe (Gina Torres), fun-loving fighter Jayne (Adam Baldwin), engineer Kaylee (Jewel Staite), doctor Simon (Sean Maher), and Mal's former flame Inara (Morena Baccarin), who plays a pivotal role in Whedon's briskly-paced plot. We still get all the quip-filled dialogue and ass-kicking action that we've come to expect from the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but Whedon goes a talented step further here, blessing his established ensemble cast with a more fully-developed dynamic of endearing relationships. Her lethal skills as a programmed "weapon" makes her a coveted prize for the power-hungry planetary Alliance, represented here by an Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who'll stop at nothing to retrieve River from Serenity's protective crew. ![]() ![]() Joss Whedon's acclaimed sci-fi Western hybrid series was ideally suited (in Browncoats, of course) for a big-screen conversion, and this action-packed adventure allows Whedon to fill in the Firefly backstory, especially the history and mystery of the spaceship Serenity's volatile and traumatized stowaway, River Tam (Summer Glau). And maybe that’s what confidence really means- the acceptance and belief in every single atom that you are.Serenity offers perfect proof that Firefly deserved a better fate than premature TV cancellation. Falling in love with the molecules that make up your essence is so much more attractive. Being beautiful is something rooted and strong being confident is just a matter of putting on something that isn’t even a real part of you. The serenity comes from having a deep acceptance of all those little things about you that add up like the trillions of molecules and atoms you are made up of! And that’s just beautiful. And I can still go out into the world- and all alone, too! I know so, because I’ve actually done it! So more important than confidence- is serenity and acceptance. I don’t want to hide those things because those things are a part of me. I’ve gone out into the world! And I don’t put on that face! Or any other face, as a matter of fact! I don’t want to hide the way I play with my hair to feel more secure or the way I laugh at all the wrong times. They are beautiful and they are you and they’re always going to be there, even when you try to cover them up! So what happens when they all come out one day? Are you going to feel like less of a person? Are the people who are supposed to love you, going to see you as less of a person? I say that it’s not about going out into the world and putting on a certain face- it’s just about going out into the world. I wonder why though, why is it supposed to be such an attractive thing? When confidence hides so many other things that are so much more beautiful! When you think of being confident, you think of tucking away all those other things that you consider to be nuisances but those nuisances make up whom you are! And those nuisances are beautiful. “People always, always talk about confidence, it’s supposed to be such an attractive thing. ![]()
